Randolph County Arrest Records
Randolph County arrest records begin with law enforcement. After service of a warrant or another lawful arrest, a person can be booked at the Randolph County Detention Center. The booking side may include a photograph, full name, age, sex, race, height, weight, booked date, holds, a short charge label, and bond. The live roster is a custody source. It is not a complete criminal case file, and a person who has been released may no longer appear.
Court charges after arrest are different. The Fifth Judicial Circuit District Attorney, led by Mike Segrest, prosecutes Randolph County cases. Formal accusations enter District or Circuit Court through a complaint, information where legally used, or indictment. The clerk then tracks charge status, pleas, motions, hearings, disposition, and sentence. For the full judicial timeline, use the Randolph County criminal court record.
The Sheriff's official page identifies the jail, roster, staff, registry, and hotline. View the Randolph County Sheriff's Office source.
That office controls booking and custody information, while the Circuit Clerk controls the court case record.
Find Randolph County Arrest Charges
Use the official Randolph County inmate roster for people who are currently in county custody and public. Use paid AlaCourt ACCESS for filed District or Circuit Court charges. A name search or case-number search costs $9.99, and a no-match result is charged. Contact Circuit Clerk Chris May for older cases, certified copies, or records not available online.
- Check the Sheriff's roster for current booking, holds, charge text, and bond.
- Search AlaCourt by defendant name or exact court case number for formal filed charges.
- Confirm Randolph County, the criminal division, defendant, and filing year.
- Read each charge's code, level, amendments, plea, status, and disposition separately.
There is no official Randolph County mobile app and no free statewide active-warrant list documented. ADOC offender search is for sentenced state prisoners, not all county arrests. The ALEA sex-offender registry is a separate registration database, not a general charge search. For suspected unserved warrants, Randolph's rule requires an in-person appearance at the Sheriff's Department because the warrant is not public until served.
The current roster displays sortable booking information and links to profiles. View the official roster source.
A roster match confirms current public custody data, not guilt or the final court charge.
Randolph County Arrest Charging Documents
Law enforcement can arrest and report an alleged offense, but the prosecutor decides which formal charges to pursue. A magistrate may first find probable cause for a warrant. District Court may handle a misdemeanor or a preliminary felony stage. Felony evidence can move to an 18-person grand jury, which may return a true bill and indictment or a no bill. The charging document, not the booking label alone, defines the accusation before the court.
| Complaint | Information | Indictment | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Source | Sworn accusation or charging statement | Formal prosecutor-filed accusation where authorized | Formal felony accusation returned by grand jury |
| Randolph use | Can begin lower-court criminal proceedings | Depends on Alabama procedure and case | Common path for Circuit Court felony prosecution |
| Record effect | Creates a filed charge | Defines prosecutor's filed count | Records a true-bill count after grand-jury review |
One arrest may yield multiple counts. A court number can identify District Criminal or Circuit Criminal proceedings. Do not infer the final severity from a short jail charge phrase. Read the filed count and current court status.
Randolph County Charge Status
Charges can change as prosecutors review evidence, a grand jury acts, motions are decided, or a plea is reached. A case can also contain several counts moving in different ways. Always read the most recent action and the disposition for each count. A case marked disposed does not tell the reader which charge produced the result.
| Status | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Pending | The filed charge has not reached a final outcome |
| Amended | The wording, code, or count changed through a formal filing or order |
| Reduced | A less severe charge replaced or resolved the original accusation |
| Dismissed | The filed charge ended without a conviction on that count |
| Nolle pros | The prosecutor dismissed a charge after filing |
| No bill | The grand jury did not find enough evidence to indict |
Successful Fifth Circuit pretrial diversion leads the DA to file a motion to dismiss with prejudice, with no conviction. That dismissal still does not automatically prove that all public arrest and charge records were expunged.
Randolph County Charges vs Convictions
Probable cause supports an arrest, warrant, or early charge decision. A conviction requires a guilty plea or finding under the criminal burden of proof. A Randolph County booking profile or pending charge is not proof of guilt. Acquitted, dismissed, reduced, and no-bill counts remain distinct from convicted counts.
| Charge | Conviction | |
|---|---|---|
| Stage | Accusation | Verdict or plea |
| Burden of Proof | Probable cause | Beyond reasonable doubt |
| Meaning | Formal accusation | Guilt established by plea or verdict |
| Possible end | Dismissal, amendment, no bill, acquittal, or conviction | Sentence, appeal, and possible later relief |
| Best field | Current count status | Disposition and sentencing order |

Its hold, charge text, and bond do not provide arraignment, plea, motions, disposition, sentence, or the full court action summary.
Randolph County Sealed Arrest Records
Sealing restricts a court record under a rule or order. Expungement uses Alabama's statutory procedure for qualifying arrest and criminal records. Eligibility depends on the charge, outcome, prior history, waiting period, and legal category. Dismissal or diversion does not itself establish that the arrest and court record have been expunged.
- Sealed record
- Public visibility is restricted by an order or privacy rule. Agency access depends on the order and governing law, and access uses the applicable motion or court-rule process.
- Expunged record
- The record is removed from ordinary public access as ordered. Agency access depends on Alabama law and the expungement order, following a petition under Alabama Code section 15-27-1 and related provisions.
Private background files may lag an official change. The authoritative check is the current court and agency record after the order is processed.
Randolph County Charge Codes and Levels
A filed count should identify the offense and legal basis. Division codes also matter: CC is Circuit Criminal, DC District Criminal, MC Municipal Criminal, and TR traffic. Randolph County's court material describes a felony as punishable by at least one year and one day in the penitentiary, while a misdemeanor may be punishable by up to one year in county jail. The cited statute and filed level control, not an informal description.
Several counts can arise from one event. Each may be amended, dismissed, or resolved separately. A bond amount applies to release conditions, not guilt. A hold can identify another agency's interest and is not itself a Randolph conviction.
Randolph County Arrest Record Channels
AlaCourt is the public paid court-case route. The Sheriff roster is the free current county-custody route. ADOC search is for state prisoners after transfer, and the ALEA sex-offender registry serves its own statutory purpose. None is a public statewide active-warrant search. For records already public after arrest or warrant service, ask the Sheriff or Circuit Clerk for the exact record each office holds.
Randolph's Sheriff is David Cofield. The Sheriff's Office and jail use P.O. Box 347, Wedowee, AL 36278, phone 256-357-4545. The Detention Center is at 340 Probilt Drive and operates at all times, while administrative hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays.
Randolph County Arrest Background Checks
A public arrest or court search is not an FCRA consumer report. Do not use casual results for employment, credit, housing, insurance, or another regulated decision. Similar names, changing charge status, release from custody, expungement, and delayed private updates can all produce a wrong conclusion.
Important: This privately operated resource is not an FCRA-regulated consumer reporting agency and cannot provide reports for regulated eligibility decisions.
Restricted Randolph County Charge Records
Juvenile charge records are confidential under Alabama Code section 12-15-133. Sealed and expunged matters are withheld from ordinary public search. Alabama Code section 12-21-3.1 restricts law-enforcement investigative reports and related materials. Victim locations, Social Security numbers, account numbers, minor identities, and protected PFA information may be redacted.
An arrest warrant is not public in Randolph County until served. A person who suspects an active warrant must appear in person at the Sheriff's Department. After service, booking information may appear on the roster and the resulting charge may enter a court record. City misdemeanors inside Roanoke or Wedowee may begin with the municipal police or court rather than the county magistrate.
For charge decisions and victim resources, the Fifth Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Randolph office is at 1 Main Street South, with mailing at P.O. Box 262, Wedowee, AL 36083, phone (256) 357-2675, and hours 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The prosecutor cannot replace the clerk as the source of the filed case record.
